Tmaň Castle

The castle Tmaň is located in a small village of the same name in Beroun, surrounded by a large area of the farm yard, park and commercial buildings. As a single-storey building with four wings Posted around a rectangular courtyard, it represents an interesting sequence of construction periods from the Middle Ages to the present day. The surrounding wall with the premium cover and the park makes it a complex historical site protected as a cultural monument.

The fortress that stood here in the 16th century has long changed the owners. In 1540, it was mentioned for the first time in written sources as the property which he passed on to Václav and Karl - the sons of the Strakonic nobleman. A number of owners followed, including Václav z Nehvizdek or Havel Trmal z Toušic. In 1590 he becomes the owner of Václav, who redeemed his brothers' shares, but he has burdened his budget considerably. His children therefore sold Tmaň two years later to Anna Trmal of the Lost. It was taken over by her son Zdeněk Trmal of Toušic, who actively participated in the state uprising and died in 1619 near Sedlčán. His property was confiscated three years later.

The new district is 1623, when the farm is bought by the board over the appeal Jan Mencl z Kolsdorfu. After his death, the monasteries acquire it, but soon they sell it to Ferdinand Greifenfels from Pilsenburg. His son Wilhelm Jaroslav had the old Gothic fortress rebuilt into a Renaissance castle, which later acquired a baroque character. The most important change was the roof in the Baroque style, which was probably built by Count Bedřech Desfour, the owner of the castle from 1755 to 1802. The last noble family that lived here until 1945 was the Noltsch.

The construction site is Tmaň interesting by maintaining the masonry of the original Gothic fortress in the north wing. On the ground floor you can see a late Gothic rectangular portal and crest vaults. In the middle of the south wing is dominated by a tower that exceeds the remaining structure by a floor. The castle complex also includes economic buildings and a decayed castle garden, the location of which is expected to be in the places of today's surrounded gardens.

From 1970 until 2022, the castle was served by the National Written Memorial. Currently undergoing extensive reconstruction. The private company Senlife has been running a home for seniors here since June 2024, including care with a special regime. Although his function has changed, Tmaň remains a witness to the rich history of Czech nobility and an example of the transformation of construction across centuries.
