Tyl's theatre in Lomnica nad Popelka is a building from 1930 with an architectural design by Oldřich Liska, built on the site of a former brewery pond. This monument is not only a cultural centre of the city, it is also listed in the list of cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. It is located on the intersection of the streets of Plk carpenter and on May 5th in Semily district in Liberec region.

The theatre was created thanks to the initiative of the Association of Theater Aides, which has a long tradition in the city. In 1929, the architect Oldřich Liska was asked to design a new theatre. In preparation for construction, the building of the savings bank on the neighbouring land was also planned, which led to the architect Liska connecting the two projects into one urban complex. Construction work began in September 1929 and was completed in September of the following year.

Architecturally, Tyl's theatre is an example of functionalism, supplemented by constructive and purist elements. The construction was based on double wooden piles in part of the former brewery pond. The exterior is characterized by a combination of concrete masonry, smooth light frame and vertical glass panes. The front face of the main cubus consists of three glazed doors with two winged windows, with the entrance staircases next to each other being five degrees. Later, the rear part of the building was extended by a one-story extension.

The theatre interior is designed for comfort and aesthetics. There are cash registers in the door next to the lobby with changing rooms. The staircase leading to the balcony contains five open boxes and seven rows of seats, behind which the eighth row of loose chairs. The theatre hall has 15 rows of seats and behind the last row is a projection cabin. The capacity of the theatre is 444 seats.

Since 2002 Tyl's theatre has been in the administration of the Cultural and Information Centre of the City of Lomnice nad Popelkou. It serves as a home for the local J. K. Tyl Theatre Association, one of the oldest theatre ensembles in the region, founded in 1827. Apart from theatrical performances, various cultural events like Lomnický's Music Spring and Cultural Summer are held here.

Today Tyl's theatre is not only a monument to architecture, but also a living centre of culture in Lomnica nad Popelka. Its history and architectural value make it an interesting destination for tourists and locals. Visit this cultural heritage to enjoy not only the theatre performances, but also the unique atmosphere and history of this place.

Welcome to Lomnice over Cinderella. Right now, at this moment, you are facing one of the most important and most important building units in our entire city. Tyl's theatre stands before your eyes. Feel the presence, the firm and clear form that dominates its surroundings. It is a building that carries within itself a strong spirit of its time and remains the living, pulsating heart of our local cultural life. Before you go any further, stop for a moment and perceive the overall atmosphere of this place. It has a sense of the seriousness of history, but also the joy of the art that takes place in these spaces.

Let us now return together to the time when the first stones were laid. Imagine the atmosphere of the year one thousand nine hundred thirty. It was a time of great change, a time when the world began to change rapidly and people were looking for new ways to express their joy, their emotions and their need to meet. It was in this very important period that this construction was completed. But did you know that the place where your feet now stand was once completely different? Once there was no theatre but a former brewery pond. Imagine this incredible transformation. The place where there was once a calm water level, which was used to make beer, is now a place where laughter, applause and music is heard. This conversion from water to cultural center is one of the most interesting stories this place tells. The construction was not built by chance, but thanks to the great effort and initiative of the local society, which had a great desire to bring higher art and social events to the city.

Now pay attention to the very form of the building you are currently observing. It was designed by Master Oldřich Liska. When you look at this facade and the total mass of the building, do not look for unnecessary ornaments or complex ornaments. That's where her greatest strength and beauty lies. This construction is a masterpiece which combines several very important architectural directions, which were at the top of modern thinking at the time.

Try to notice the elements of functionalism. This direction tells us that the shape of the building must be closely linked to its purpose. Nothing here is just for decoration; everything has its meaning and serves to enable the theatre to perform its function best possible. Subsequently in architecture you will see the features of constructivism. This places great emphasis on solid, clear and logical structure. The building does not appear chaotic, but it acts as a firm, well-thought-out entity where each line has its place. And finally, in all your looks, you'll feel purism. That's the purity and the simplicity that doesn't burden the human eye with unnecessary excess. It's an architecture that believes in truth, clarity and pure form. When you look at these shapes, you actually see the philosophy of the whole period when people were trying to build a modern, functional and beautiful world with their simplicity.

Although we cannot name the particular actors or artists who performed at this stage in our records for the moment, we must honor the invisible will of the people who have born this place. That was the society that was not willing to wait passively, but wanted to act and build. Thanks to their determination and the vision of architect Liska, this object became an essential part of our heritage.

You may be interested in one more very important thing. This building is not just an ordinary house for artists. Tyl's theatre is listed in the official list of cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. This is proof that its value is recognised by the whole state and that it is considered a treasure that we must protect for future generations. It is a symbol of our common cultural wealth. Even for almost a century since its inception, the building remains fully operational. Since the year two thousand and two, the cultural and information centre of the city Lomnice nad Popelkou has been old for its administration, care and maintenance, which ensures that the theatre will continue to serve the people and bring them experiences.

Look at this building for a while. Feel her lines clash with light and shadows. Feel its shapes reflected in the surrounding space. It's a building that speaks its silent but clear language of architecture.

Thank you for stopping by and paying attention to Tyler's theater. We hope that this brief insight into its history and its creator has brought new ideas and that it has helped you to better understand the importance of this place for our city. Continue to explore our beautiful city and enjoy every moment you spend in this rich environment. Goodbye.
