Usedlost čp. 132 Homestead

Usedlost čp. 132 in Stachy is a culturally significant monument located in the Prachatice district of the Jihočeský region. Built over 350 years ago, it is one of the last remaining original structures in Jáchymov. The site gained fame as the residence of Josef Klostermann, known as Rankl-Sepp. It is notably associated with Karel Klostermann’s novel "V ráji šumavském," which immortalized the character of Rankl-Sepp. Today, it serves as a pension named in his honor.

The origins of Usedlost čp. 132 are rooted in the pastoral lifestyle of Jáchymov's northern Šumava foothills. Historically, the area was defined by dispersed settlements and low population density, reflecting a reliance on pasturing. This traditional mountain cottage, constructed over three centuries ago, has retained much of its original character despite modern interventions. Its architecture features a single-story, L-shaped floor plan with a partial cellar. Ownership of the property has transitioned significantly over time. In 1882, Josef Klostermann, known as Rankl-Sepp, moved into the house after selling his previous property in Ranklov. The Herzig family purchased it that same year, marking a pivotal moment in its history. Following Rankl-Sepp's death in 1888, the site continued to hold cultural importance and was eventually declared a protected monument.

Rankl-Sepp’s life and legacy are central to the historical narrative of Usedlost čp. 132. Karel Klostermann's literary work immortalized him as a benevolent figure who aided those in need.
