Vyšehořovice is a ruin of medieval fortress, located in the village Vyšehořovice in the Praha- east district. This building was probably created at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries and has been protected as a cultural monument since 1966. Its historical importance lies in the development of construction, which shows the transformation from a separate tower to a complex fortified mansion.

The fortress was built during the period of development of small chateaux and chateaux in Bohemia, serving as a centre of local administration. This process was linked to the consolidation of state power and the settlement of new territories. The first written mention of the fort dates back to 1450, when it belonged to Olifern the Man.

The oldest part was a loose square living tower, whose masonry dates back to the mid-13th century, which was confirmed by an archaeological survey. A reconstruction took place before the end of the 14th century, during which a wall was built with a rectangular plan and a protective moat. The entrance to the premises was made up of a branch tower in the southern corner with a large portal and a pedestrian gate.

In the western part was built a three-space palace with valenas encircled by floors and preserved portals. Between the narrower side of the palace and the tower, a narrow alley has developed, probably leading the bridge to the tower. A smaller building connected to the palace was built along the north wall, while another residential building connected to the Bransky tower appeared at the east wall.

During the 16th century, the fort was modified for economic purposes, which included filling the ditch, relocating the entrance and increasing the perimeter wall with the connection of economic objects. In the 19th century, it gradually became desolate. Until 1988 the fort was managed by JZD May Nehvizda.

In 1957, a building historical survey began, confirming the existence of a prism tower from the mid-13th century and residential buildings from the beginning of the 15th and the end of the 16th century.

Today, the ruin is found on the premises of the farm court, serving as a testament to the transformation of the medieval residence into an agricultural object. If you visit this place, you can learn more about the history of local administration and architectural development of the region.

Welcome to the ruins of the fortress Vyšehořovice, a historical monument you can view with full view and imagination. You are now standing before the ruins that tell the story of the centuries past. The local landscape is rising slightly, allowing you to see the outlines of the former fortress, whose tracks are now almost in memory and dust.

The fortress Vyšehořovice was probably built at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, which was the period when Czech countries evolved and became stronger in political and cultural terms. The oldest part of the fort is a free-standing square living tower, which today speaks to us about the way of life and defence. In the later Middle Ages, the fortress was surrounded by walls and supplemented with a palace and a branch tower, indicating its strategic importance.

Look up and notice how parts of the masonry still hold their position, although they are already broken. These remnants can tell us about the architecture of the time, although specific details are not so clear because of their condition. The fortress has been gradually modified for various purposes, which can be seen in its changes and extensions.

One of the key stories associated with this place is Olifern Mužík, which in 1450 was the first written holder of the fort. His name has become part of the history of Vyšehrovic and reminds us how important these structures were to the local power hierarchy.

What you may also be interested in here is the fact that the fort has been protected as a cultural monument since 1966. This allows us to maintain its presence and learn about its past meaning.

Let's remember that although the ruins may be quiet, they have a voice. Doubt their history and allow yourself to imagine the life that once took place inside. The Vyšehořovice is like a book open to reading for those who are willing to listen.

Thank you for your visit and wish you a happy exploration. If you are interested in other historical monuments, feel free to embark on the road around Prague-East, where you will find many other attractions waiting for discovery.

When visiting, bring protective shoes and clothes suitable for outdoor conditions. Also remember to take water, sunscreen and protective cream with you, especially in the summer months. Photographs are possible from different angles, but the best light offers an early blow or late afternoon.
