Zámek Horní Cerekev is a Renaissance-style castle in the town of Horní Cerekev, Vysočina Region, Czech Republic. Located on the edge of Zámecký rybník and near the Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, this historical monument showcases architectural evolution from its origins as a fortress in the late 13th century to its current form. The castle is culturally significant and has been protected as a heritage site since 1963.

The origins of Zámek Horní Cerekev date back to the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries when Dobeš z Bechyně commissioned an initial fortress. Ownership passed through various notable families, each contributing to its development. By around 1411, the Leskovcové family took possession, marking a significant period in the castle's history. The Renaissance transformation began under Jan Leskovec, who initiated changes that redefined it into a more elaborate residence. This evolution continued with further modifications by subsequent owners, including the Regalové family in 1734, when the fortress was rebuilt into its current form.

Architecturally, Zámek Horní Cerekev features three wings and a two-story design, with arcades on the ground floor and glazed windows above. The interior houses valuable Renaissance paintings, though they are currently in poor condition. These artistic elements reflect the cultural flourishing of the period when many local fortresses underwent similar transformations.

Throughout its history, Zámek Horní Cerekev has seen a succession of owners, each leaving their mark on the property. After Jan Leskovec's death in 1424 at the Battle of Želiv, ownership passed through various hands, including notable figures like Čeňek Krušina z Lichtenburka and Hynko Krušina. The castle remained within the Leskovcové family until 1655 when Maxmilián Valentin z Martinic acquired it. Subsequent owners included Ferdinand Leopold Beno z Martinic, František Ferdinand z Khünburgu, and Arnošt August Metternich, among others. In more recent history, the Hohenzollern family owned the castle from 1842 until its nationalization in 1948 following the communist takeover.

Despite its rich history, Zámek Horní Cerekev is not generally accessible to the public. However, interested visitors can request permission to view the interiors through the current owner. Today, the castle serves as a summer residence for the owners of a Prague-based company and has undergone significant restoration since being acquired by Manželé Přenosilovi in 1994.

Zámek Horní Cerekev offers a unique glimpse into the architectural and cultural history of the region. Its transformation from a medieval fortress to a Renaissance castle mirrors broader historical trends, making it a site of both local and national significance. Visitors are invited to explore this remarkable monument, appreciating its storied past and enduring legacy.
