The castle Smilov is a Baroque building dating back to the beginning of the 18th century, when in 1701 Augustine Arnešt Schönowetz of Ungarswerth built it on the site of an older fortress. However, the very creation of the settlement dates back to the past - the Smilov villages were founded sometime before 1308 by Lichtemburk, although the mansion did not exist at that time.

During the Middle Ages, several owners took turns in the land of love. Part of the village in the early Middle Ages also belonged to the seventh monastery. In the 14th and 15th centuries are documented owners such as Hynek from Smilova or Epik from Smilova. In 1407, the village was seriously ravaged by Majnusha of Smilov, and it is not clear whether the medieval fortress was destroyed or later.

The new contents of the property appear only in the second half of the 16th century, when Jan Šmolovský from Šmolov appeared in 1566. At this time, the fort was probably restored. After Šmolovsky's death in 1575, his wife Anna Dobřenská of Dobřenice inherited the estate, which left it to her second husband, Christopher Vojkovsky. A long number of owners followed - from Pavel Mitrovski of Neomyšle (from 1594) to various noble and bourgeois families. In 1628 he joined the estate to the Manor of Shřež the southerner Jan Heidler of Buk. As of 1651, only the sailing yard is mentioned in the sources, which suggests that the fortress probably disappeared.

The owners took turns - Sinzendorf, Palm-Guldenfingen and others signed it in the 18th century. In the 19th century, Karel Antonín Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen bought it at auction in 1841, whose successors Leopold and Wilhelm made minor adjustments at the end of the century. After the land reform in 1925, it was bought by the landowner Václav Skřivan, in whose hands he remained until nationalization after 1948.

The following decades were located here JZD Štok, which built apartments in the castle for employees and office, but without the necessary maintenance of the building. After 1989 the castle returned to its original owners. For years, its owner thought it best to tear the object down, but in 2016 it probably decided to save it. Today, the building is badly damaged, but its regeneration potential remains. The interesting thing is that Jaroslav Rössler was born here, pioneer of world avant-garde photography.
