To understand why this place is so important, we need to go back deep into the past, to the beginnings of the Jewish presence in our history. The history of the Jewish community in Šumperk is not short, because it dates back to 1585. This is the time when Emperor Rudolf II rules, a period of tension, unrest and often injustice. That's when something tragic happened that changed the face of this city for years. The Jews were wrongfully accused of bringing a plague epidemic into the city. These allegations, often based on fear and ignorance, have led to their expulsion. Imagine that moment, the uncertainty and the pain of people who had to leave their homes and their livelihoods. This event has left a deep mark in the history of the city, and the cemetery you see today is one of the few remains of this ancient, complicated existence.

But now let's pay attention to what you see right in front of you. Although the roots of this place go deep into the sixteenth century, the current appearance of the cemetery surrounding you is much younger. Everything you are now observing is the result of the reconstruction and reconstruction of 1932. Pay attention to the main building that dominates the entire space. This gift was not only an aesthetic element, but above all a strong symbol of the return of memory and respect for traditions that had been so drastically disturbed in the past. This star is now shining as a reminder of the identity of the people who have rested here.
