Kingdom Come: Deliverance in real life
Both Kingdom Come games are set in real places in Bohemia in 1403. Here are 16 castles, fortresses, churches and monasteries from the games – what each place is in the game, what really stood there in 1403, and what you will find today.
For every place we separate what is documented for 1403, what is not documented (sources neither confirm nor rule it out) and where the game uses creative licence. Each claim has its sources on the monument page.
Sázava region – first game
The countryside around Rataje, Talmberk and Sázava where Henry’s story begins. The places lie within about 15 km of each other and can be visited in a day.
- Stříbrná Skalice Castle in the game: Skalitz documented in 1403 (page in Czech)
Henry's home. The game opens here: troops of King Sigismund of Hungary burn the town and castle, and Henry has to flee to Rattay. - Rataje nad Sázavou Castle in the game: Rattay – upper castle documented in 1403 (page in Czech)
The main town of the first game. It is ruled by Sir Hanush of Leipa, who governs Rattay for the young heir Hans Capon. - Pirkštejn Castle in the game: Pirkstein (Rattay – lower castle) documented in 1403
The lower castle of Rattay with its massive tower at the tip of the promontory, one of the landmarks of the in-game town. - Talmberk Castle in the game: Talmberg documented in 1403
The castle of Sir Divish of Talmberg, one of the first places Henry reaches after the attack on Skalitz. Later it becomes the target of a bandit ruse. - Church of the Assumption, Úžice in the game: Uzhitz – church documented in 1403
The village of Uzhitz between Rattay and Talmberg; its church stands at the centre. - Sázava Monastery in the game: Sasau documented in 1403 (page in Czech)
A monastery town on the Sázava – a Benedictine monastery with its monks, and merchants in the town across the river.
Trosky and Bohemian Paradise – second game
The sandstone landscape below Trosky where the second game begins. It is best explored on foot along marked trails.
- Trosky Castle in the game: Trosky documented in 1403 (page in Czech)
The opening of the second game. The castle of Otto of Bergow, where Henry and Hans Capon come to negotiate on behalf of the nobles loyal to King Wenceslas. - Nebákov Mill in the game: Nebakov not documented for 1403 (page in Czech)
The fortress of Nebakov south of Trosky, taken over by bandits. Henry and Hans Capon head here in one of the first quests of the second game. - Podsemín Bridge in the game: Semine not documented for 1403
The fortress and village of Semine, seat of the lords of Semine. In the game the bridge over the stream by the mill is made of wood.
Kutná Hora region – second game
The city of silver and the fortresses around it. You can walk the historic centre of Kutná Hora and Sedlec; Suchdol and Malešov are a few kilometres away.
- Italian Court (Vlašský dvůr), Kutná Hora in the game: Kuttenberg – Italian Court documented in 1403 (page in Czech)
The royal mint at the heart of Kuttenberg, the city of silver. The layout of the in-game city closely follows the preserved historic centre. - St Barbara's Church, Kutná Hora in the game: Kuttenberg – St Barbara's Church documented in 1403 (page in Czech)
In the game the cathedral is still under construction, one of the landmarks of Kuttenberg. - St James's Church, Kutná Hora in the game: Kuttenberg – St James's Church documented in 1403 (page in Czech)
The main parish church of Kuttenberg, right next to the Italian Court. - Sedlec Ossuary (All Saints' Church) in the game: Sedletz – ossuary creative licence
Blind Brother Morticius, keeper of the Sedletz ossuary, asks Henry to tidy up the bones and stack the skulls into pyramids (the quest “Thou art but dust…”). - Sedlec Monastery in the game: Sedletz – monastery documented in 1403
The Cistercian monastery near Kuttenberg, setting of several side quests. - Malešov Fortress in the game: Maleshov documented in 1403
A fortress in the south of the Kutná Hora region. The second act of the game culminates in its capture (the quest “Dancing with the Devil”). Maleshov lay outside the map in the first game; in the second it appears in full. - Suchdol Chateau in the game: Suchdol documented in 1403 (page in Czech)
One of the main fortresses of the Kutná Hora region, the setting of several quests in the second game.
Be a considerate visitor
Some places from the game are private or lived in: the ruins of Talmberk are surrounded by family houses, Pirkštejn is a rectory and the Malešov fortress is privately owned. Park in marked car parks, take your rubbish home and respect opening hours – the villages around Trosky and Kutná Hora have seen far more visitors since the second game came out.
Guided experiences
Costumed tours, themed trails and medieval programmes at the game locations are offered by the official project KCD Live, run with Warhorse Studios and the regions. On Pamatky.cz you will find the history of each place and other monuments nearby.
Pamatky.cz is not an official Warhorse Studios project. Game names are used only to identify the places. Updated 29 October 2026.
