Činžovní dům Hilbertův Building
Činžovní dům Hilbertův, also known as rental house no. 234 / II, is an important Art Nouveau construction on the Masaryk waterfront in Prague-New Town. Built in 1904-1905 according to the plans of architect Kamil Hilbert, it represents a unique synthesis of Art Nouveau naturalism with elements of late Vladislav Gothic. This monument is one of Hilbert's most remarkable realization of architectural art and represents an important contribution to the history of Czech architecture.
The house was created during the Art Nouveau period, which brought new artistic directions to Czech architecture. This style was a reaction to industrialization and seeking a return to individuality and detailed craftsmanship. The first mention of the plot's settlement dates back to 1434, when the house of the old-town butcher Nicholas Sherlinka stood here. In the 17th century, the object was known as "The Sherlins" or "The Sherlins." The current building was created in Prague's rendering according to the plans of architect Kamil Hilbert, who was also co-owner of the house. The construction was carried out by Matìj Blecha in 1904- 1905.
The building is a three-way building with a deep layout, situated on a rectangular parcel. The object represents one of Kamil Hilbert's most remarkable realization, which is a master of Art Nouveau naturalism with late Gothic elements (so-called Vladislav Gothic). The five-axis street facade is grafted upwards and characterized by its vertical and rich plastic detail. The entrance to the house is situated in the right outer axis of the editorial with the closed grid. The parter is highlighted by the Bosnian with rustic and canelura. Above the entrance is the Art Nouveau inscription "The summer of the Lord 1904- 1905." The two extremes of the facade are highlighted by the arches which run from the first to the third floor. On the third floor there are logžie with segmental metal railing, while the fourth floor is decorated with balconies with rich plastic decoration. The central axis is accentuated on the second floor by a segmented balcony on the console. The facade is richly divided by malts with vegetative ornament. Among the windows of the second floor are mascarons with insect and frog motifs. The extreme axes peak high atics shields with gotifying fials, leaves and plastic exotic birds. The central part of the shield is a canopy arch.
The interior of the House stands out with a high degree of preserved original elements and a fantastic concept of space. The vestibule is an proportionally spectacular space, encapsulated by a pair of segmental vaults in passports decorated with pilasters and rosettes in diagonal fields. The ceiling of the hinge consists of a rib arch with stucco. The two-arm stone staircase is protected by a metal hot railing. The staircase portal covers a flat ceiling with diagonal ribs and a vegetative ornament. The unique element is the decoration of the suprafort entrance where there is plastic vegetation with tree strains (jinn double-lopped), squirrels, waterman, swan and curled snake. The author of this sculpture decoration is Karel Novák. The atmosphere is supplemented by stained glass, original ceramic tiles and plastered doors. On the ground floor there is a compressed vaults with sections. The basement under the whole floor plan is covered with segment vaults.
The court facade is also five-axis, and a deep three-axis risalite comes out with ships. There is a separate garage construction in the yard. During the 20th century, the building underwent several modifications, including a floor and reconstruction.
Today Činžovní dům Hilbertův is not only an architectural monument but also a witness to the rich history of the Czech city. Its unique style and details make it an important attraction for lovers of architecture and history. Exploration of this object offers a view of the past and artistic spirit of Art Nouveau, which is also a reminder of Kamil Hilbert's expertise and influence on Czech architecture. Exploring Činžovní dům Hilbertův is therefore not only a journey to history, but also an experience full of beauty and artistic enthusiasm.

Seasonal recommendations
In spring the building shines in fine light and the surrounding greenery begins to bloom, which gives the New Town a fresh touch. I recommend visiting the house in the morning when there is a quieter atmosphere in the streets. Due to variable weather, the best supplement is a light jacket or raincoat.
The summer sun illuminates the details of the facade and the decorating of the house, which in the hot air works very strongly. Due to the large number of people in the high season, come as early as possible in the morning to avoid the biggest crowds. Dress up light and airy substances that will make you comfortable while walking.
Autumn brings golden shades of leaves and dim light, which underlines the historical character of the building. The ideal time for visiting is late afternoon when the sun falls and creates deep shadows on architectural elements. Don't forget the warm sweater and moisture resistant shoes.
In winter, the house is cosy thanks to contrast between freezing air and warm light from the windows. In advent time, the neighborhood is full of expectations and festive moods. Get ready with very warm clothes and plan your journey earlier because the days are short and darkness comes quickly.
