The Palace on the corner of Vorshilská and Ostrová streets is situated on the site of three houses from the 14th century which it has gradually unified since 1702 František Ferdinand hrabě Berchtold z Uherčic. In 1721 his successor Václav Ignác hrabě Deym ze Stříteže completed his work, whose name was preserved by the building. The important noble families - Malovks from Malovice and Kinský - were then owned.

The decisive change came in 1800 when the palace bought Josef hrabě Vratislav z Mitrovic and had it completely rebuilt according to the design of Ignáce Palliardiho. This is how the present early classical form was created. The daughter of Vratislav, Josefina, later married Karl II from Schwarzenberg and the palace with stал part of the property of a significant family.

The building gradually lost its residence and was rented out. In 1928 the post office was created here. After 1948, when the palace was nationalized, it served state purposes - in section 130 / 10, the Israeli Embassy was based in Czechoslovakia between 1948 and 1967. Later, it was used by the Cultural Facility Administration. After 1989 it was returned to the Schwarzenberg family and today it is owned by Jan Nepomuk Schwarzenberg.

Architecturally, it is a single-storey object with irregular ground plan, where the inner wing creates two courtyard. Around 1840 a separate storey classical building was added to the Island Street. Three modern sculptures are interesting - statues of women from David Černý at the top above the shields on the Vorshilska side. The palace is adjacent to the Dietrichstein Palace and is protected as a cultural monument. Today it is inhabited by the Dagmar Foundation and Václav Havel Vision 97.

Welcome to the Deymov Palace in the heart of New Town of Prague. If you look at this unique historical monument, you can imagine the complex history and architectural development that shaped this building. You are standing here in front of an elegant facade with an irregular plan decorated with modern statues by David Černý. These artistic elements give the palace life and modern appearance.

Let's look at his history. In the 14th century there were three separate houses which were gradually unified into one building. František Ferdinand Berchtold of Uherčic began this process around 1702 and in 1721 it was completed by Václav Ignác hrabě Deym ze Stříteže. After centuries of reconstruction and changes, the palace was completely rebuilt in 1800 according to the design of architect Ignáce Palliardiho, which gave him his present early classical form.

Now pay attention to the details of this building. Look up at the facade, where modern statues of women supply palaces with freshness and elegance. These artistic elements are a special contribution of David Černý and differ greatly from historical architectural elements.

Key figures that influenced the fate of this palace include František Ferdinand Count Berchtold of Uherčice and Václav Ignác Count Deym of Silver. Later in 1800 Josef hrabě Vratislav z Mitrovic gave the palace its present form, which also influenced its future history.

Interestingly, between 1948 and 1967, the Deymov Palace was the seat of the Israeli Embassy in Czechoslovakia. This historical role has added another layer of importance to the building.

Now that you've learned a little bit about this fascinating place, we'll invite you to explore the surrounding streets of New Town. Every step here is like a page of history and every building has a story. We hope that your visit to Deymov Palace has been interesting to you. When you return to us, remember to look at other historical gems of Prague. Goodbye and have a good day!
