The Golden Lamb House, located on the north side of the buildings in the Republic Square in Pilsen, is a city building with rich history and architectural transformations. This house is remarkable with its long series of reconstructions that reflect various architectural styles from goth to classicism. Since 1991, it has been protected as a cultural monument.

The house was established at a time when various architectural directions were developing in the Czech Republic. Originally Gothic, it underwent a number of reconstructions: Renaissance in the 2nd half of the 16th century, Baroque in 1738, early Classicist in the 3rd quarter of the 18th century and Classicist in the 1st half of the 19th century. This historical context reflects the dynamics of urban development in this area.

Architecturally, the house is a two-story brick object with a rectangular plan. His facade is performed in a non-Baroque style, which brings interest to his visual appearance. The ground floor is divided by the belt and the main semi-circular portal is located on the left. On the floors of the facade divided by lizenas with indicated flat heads with a triglyphs theme, which adds an impression of richness and detail. An interesting feature is the asymmetrically located worn Lizard at the right demanding house. The windows are pair by pair and on the second floor have highlighted vaults, which gives the structure an elegant character. The parapets are decorated with a flat pattern with volutes on the sides and a motif of simple chabrac. The house is closed with a Mansard roof, which gives its appearance a characteristic shape.

The house had several owners during its centuries of existence. Since 1549 he was the first known owner of Lepolt Uzděhalil. They followed Jiří Krumlovský (1584-86), the innkeeper Benedikt Draxl since 1568, and Fridrich Sylván from Feldštejn, who in 1618 housed the commander of the imperial crew Felix Dornhaim. Since 1654, the house was owned by Jan Slovacius (Slováček) teacher and private, followed by Volf Weydner since 1669. In 1730 he became owner of Jan Václav Hostěnský, and in 1774- 1823 the house was owned by the baker Tomáš Saláto, whose first name appears at the Golden Lamb. In 1823, Tomáš Salát Barbora's daughter won the Salátová house together with the artistic beautician Jan Ekle.

Among the key events in the history of the house are Baroque reconstruction in 1738, which meant a significant change in its architectural character. Later, the facade was significantly modified in 1889 and 1924, which contributed to its present appearance.

Today's House The Golden Lamb is protected as a cultural monument and is worth visiting with its rich history and architectural transformations. Its location at the Square of the Republic of Pilsen makes it easily accessible and important for understanding urban history and architecture. Visiting this house offers a view of the changes that Czech cities have undergone over the centuries, and reminds us of the importance of preserving cultural heritage.

We welcome you to this historic residence, which stands as witness to many changes in time in the Republic of Pilsen Square. The Golden Lamb's House, as its name echoes, is a real pearl within the northern front of the homes of this area. If you look at it, you'll see an industrialized facade with non-Baroque elements and a Mansard roof that we invite you to search.

This house has a rich history. Originally, it was gothic, but time brought about many changes. In the second half of the 16th century there was renaissance reconstruction, followed by baroque dilution in 1738. In the 3rd quarter of the 18th century the house was influenced by early classical changes and eventually became a full classical heart in the first half of the 19th century. The facade you see today was modified in 1889 and 1924, adding a new layer of history.

Let's look at the architecture of this place. Note the elegant facade with its neobaric elements and the Mansard roof, which gives the house a unique character. These details are the result of many reconstructions that this house has passed on its way through time.

The Golden Lamb House is connected to several historical figures. Felix Dornhaim and Jan Slovacius, also known as Slováček, were among those who influenced his fate. In addition, Jan Eklem appeared here. They all contributed to the cultural and historical heritage of this place.

The interesting thing is that the name He first appeared at the golden lamb for possession of the baker Thomas Salat. This gives this place another layer of stories and history.

Since 1991, the house has been protected as a cultural monument, which underlines its importance for Pilsen history. We urge you to look at him with respect and curiosity.

We hope this house has brought you some attractions and inspiration. If you have time, wait for another opportunity to explore more historical sites in Pilsen. Thank you for your attention and we hope that you will return to other discoveries.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit is in the morning or late afternoon, when natural light best highlights architectural details of the facade of the house in the Republic Square.

We recommend taking comfortable shoes with us, which is suitable for walking on the historical core of the city.

For the best photos we recommend focusing on layered details of the building, which shows its Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque origin, especially in side lighting.

For families with children, the visit is suitable as a short example of how urban houses have changed and rebuilt over the centuries.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring: In spring, the House of the Golden Lamb turns into a living flower paradise when the first flowers appear on the streets and surrounding seedlings. Sun rays illuminate the architectural details of the house quite differently than in winter, adding something magical and newborn to the atmosphere. For a visit it is advisable to choose the afternoon when the sun reaches the top and can be seen in all its colors. Put on a warm dress or skirt with a leather jacket, because morning and evening is getting colder. Visit this place before the beginning of summer wandering, when crowds are even less burdened.

Summer: In summer, the Golden Lamb House becomes a center of attention for tourist currents. Sunlight joins the architectural beauty of the house and creates ideal conditions for photography, while hot noon reminds you of the necessity of drinks. The best time to visit is in the morning or in the evening, when the crowd decreases and you can enjoy a quieter tour. It is advisable to prepare light clothes that allow you to relax from the heat, and do not forget to protect against the sun such as a hat or paraplaze.

Autumn: In autumn, the House of the Golden Lamb gains an atmosphere full of comfort and peace. Tree leaves turn into a colour palette from yellow to red, which gives the surroundings a romantic character. Sunshine days are the perfect time to visit, because the sun illuminates home with golden rays and creates a fascinating view. It is advisable to choose warm clothes with an emphasis on leather jacket or plaid because the evening can cool quickly. I've been visiting this place this time of year to save you from mob robberies and enjoy a quiet tour.

Winter: In winter, the Golden Lamb House is transformed into a place of magic. The light is softer and less intense, which adds something calm and quiet to the atmosphere. In this period the opening of the monument is often shorter, so make sure you visit in time. Hot clothes with leather jacket or plaid are essential for comfort during the visit. In addition, it may be advisable to bring gloves because cold air may make the feeling of shame worse in the outdoor area. Winter visit is ideal for those who seek peace and want to enjoy a unique view of historical memory without crowds.
