The Chapel of the Holy Heart The Lord in Česnovice is a pseudo-gothic building situated at the intersection of the roads I / 20 and II / 145 on the northwest edge of the village. Together with the near stone of God's torture from the 15th century, it creates a place protected as a cultural monument and creates a kind of sanctuary in the landscape, showing various layers of piety.

The chapel was built in 1865 by an interesting figure - local farmer Jakub Koupal. He had a reason for his actions: he was going to emigrate to America and wanted to keep a lasting memory in his home village. However, the ambition exceeded its possibilities in dealing with the authorities. He bathed inappropriately - he built the chapel without permission of the church authorities. When the relevant institutions became aware of the construction, they refused to consecrate it, and so the gift remained sacrally unsanctified.

The time directly showed that rights had concerns. But the designer didn't give in. More than twenty years later (around 1885) the chapel received support from an unexpected source. The woman from nearby Nepomuk donated 120 gold pieces to repair the construction - a substantial amount at the time. This opened the way to the formal initiation of the chapel of the Holy Heart. Without this entrance, Mrs Nepomuk's memory of Jakub Koupal would have remained truly unsanctified.

The sacral character of the chapel was then to insure the interior equipment. In the interior there was a wooden statue of Christ, which was preserved here for more than a hundred years. This mannequin witnessed generations of religious or curious people. But fate will befall her evil - in 1989 the statue was stolen, which meant the loss of a small part of the spiritual equipment of the place.

Although the chapel lived to a modern age and a renewed interest in folk monuments. In 2018, it underwent a renewal, which is a sign that local or state care respects its origin and function. Today, there is a place where a visitor looks not only for the pseudo-gothic архитectura, but also for the story of a man who wanted to leave a sign of his faith in the landscape - even if he was willing to deal with the administration not all his wishes.

Welcome to a place full of history and beauty. You are standing in front of the chapel of the Holy Heart of the Lord in Czechnovice, a unique monument that was built on the exposed road path. This pseudo-gothic object may be small, but its history is large and full of stories.

This chapel was built in 1865 by Jakub Koupal, a local peasant who wanted to leave a permanent memory in the village before his emigration to America. His personal desire for memory led to the creation of this sacral place, although it was built without church permission, which initially meant that the chapel was not ordained. This fact adds another layer of interest and wisdom to this chapel's history.

Look up at the facade of the chapel and perceive its pseudo-gothic architecture that carries traces of time. Although specific details are not known, note the simplicity of the building, which can still create a sense of peace and respect. This chapel is a witness to many generations whose life paths have crossed here.

The key character associated with this monument is of course Jakub Koupal. His story about the desire to keep the ties to his home village, despite a far-off goal in America, reminds us of the power of personal motivations and traditions.

The interesting thing this chapel holds is its unexpected path to holiness. After the gift of 120 gold to repair and subsequent consecration in 1885, the chapel became the official place of the cult. However, the history of this chapel is not without drama - in 1989 the original wooden statue of Christ was stolen from the interior, which added another layer of mystery and tragedy to its story.

In 2018 the chapel underwent a complete repair, which again made it the centre of spiritual life in Česnovice. This process of renewal is a reminder of the continued value and love of this place.

Let's move around the chapel and pay attention to its surroundings that bear traces of the past. Every stone and every detail here tells a story about the people who met this chapel.

This monument invites you to further explore not only its physical structure, but also the history and emotions it carries. I hope your visit was full of knowledge and inspiration. With God in Czechnovice!

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit is in the morning or late afternoon when the sun illuminates the facade of the chapel and highlights its pseudo-gothic architectural elements. Due to the location at the crossroads, the operation is quieter in the morning.

The location is easily accessible by car because the village lies at the main road routes between České Budějovice, Sand and Netolích. Parking is possible near the chapel, but take care of road safety.

For photography we recommend using a wide-angle lens, which captures the chapel together with the historic God's torture of the 15th century, which stands close to it. The best light for pictures of the construction details is in side lighting.

In the immediate vicinity of the chapel there is a stone torture of God, which forms a complete historical whole with the chapel. Further trips to the wider area are planned in view of the location of the village at important transport hubs.

For families with children, the location is suitable as a short stop when travelling by car. Children can admire the historical architecture of the chapel and close to God's torment, but due to the position at the crossroads, increased adult supervision is needed.
