The chapel of St. Rocha is a free-standing church building on the hill of Montenegro (in the local word Rochus) over Uherský Hradiště, which stands on the border of the local parts of Jarošova and Marátice. It's a Roman Catholic pilgrimage site dedicated to St. Roch, the patron saint of protection against plague wounds. Next to St. Roch's column in Smetana's orchards, the only preserved reminder of the catastrophic plague epidemic that hit Uherské Hradiště in 1680 remained.

The building of the chapel has a complex history of fighting the plague. After the city chose three patrons to protect against the epidemic - St. Roch, St. Rosalie and St. Shebestian - and encouraged its leading townspeople to make a financial contribution, especially the rich Zacharias Guchs, the construction of a large baroque church began. After approval by the Bishop of Olomouc Karl II of Liechtenstein-Castelkorn, the construction started in the autumn of 1680. But the city's devastating fire in April 1681 delayed the construction considerably. The construction work lasted for many years: in October 1687 the presbytery was finished with a tower and one bell. The construction of the temple ship and the nartex continued, and when Uherské Hradiště hit another plague epidemic in 1715, a hermit for the church was added to the church. He waited until 1740 for complete completion.

But the fate of the building soon turned. In 1786, during the Josephine reforms, the church was abolished and desecrated, and the city subsequently sold it. There was a tower with a hall and in the interior there was a money factory, a powder store for the military crew. After the creation of the Czechoslovak Republic, the city decided to save the church's torso and restore its original purpose. The Kromeriše Probošt and MP Antonín Cyril Stojan (later Bishop and Archbishop), as well as Hungarian Hradiště citizens Vojtěch Stancl and Miroslav Skácel. The first landmark intervention was carried out around 1930 and the building was again consecrated in 1931. The remnants of the former church were created by a new classical chapel.

The post-war period was difficult for the chapel. It was found in the middle of military training space and was badly damaged. It was only during 1965 to 1968 that the chapel was reconstructed with the help of the citizens, under the leadership of the parish in Sady and with the help of the priest Antonín Šuunánek. On 29 September 1968, the chapel was re-consecrated and, in the same year, the National Monument Institute was added to the list of protected buildings. The following decades have brought interior modifications: sculptures and facade decorated with ceramic triangle mosaic were placed in the prepared niche. The army handed over the chapel to the city in 2003.

Recently, a scientific approach was made to the memory. After the transfer to ownership of the city in 2007, a building-historical survey was launched. Radar archaeogeophysical survey in winter 2008 revealed the remains of masonry and stones under the surface. Subsequent archaeological research in the summer of 2008 showed that there was indeed a quite large church on the site; demolished walls have been discovered, original tiles and stone foundations reaching up to 1.8 m deep The location was included in the Natura 2000 system in 2005. Since 1875 regular pilgrims took place at the chapel, which was later interrupted in the 1970s.
