Kleistův pomník Monument

Kleistův pomník, also known as the monument of General Kleist or generally the memory of the battle of 1813, is a historical monument located in the village of Nakléřov, which belongs to the village Petrovice in Ústí nad Labem district. He was erected in 1913 in honor of General Friedrich Kleist and his contribution to the victory of the Allied forces over the Napoleonic army during the Battle of Chlumce. The memorial also remembers General Ignaz Moes von Nollendorf and all the fallen heroes from 1813.

The monuments were built to honor the key moments of the battle at Chlumce and Prestano, which took place on 29 and 30 August 1813. This battle was part of a wider conflict against Napoleon's France, known as the Liberation War. The Prussian forces under General Friedrich Kleist played a decisive role in encircling French forces, leading to their overwhelming defeat and capture by Commander Commander Vandamm. For his military success General Kleist was later promoted to the count's condition and won an honorary addition to "von Nollendorf.".

The architecture of the monument is characterized by a sandstone obelisk in the form of a thin, secluded needle, which ends with a cast iron ball at the top. The whole work is based on a massive prism plinth mounted on a two-stage staircase support. The monument is located in a enclosed space defined by a low concrete wall and by reinforced concrete posts, which were previously connected by wooden boards or metal pipes. On the front of the plinth is the German inscription renewed in 2011 according to the original materials, which is dedicated to the memorial to Field Marshal Friedrich von Kleist and General Ignazi Moese von Nollendorf. The front of the obelisk also carries a new Czech plate with a translation of the dedication.

In 1913, the memorial was the initiator of a local military veteran society and the support of the German army. The construction of the memorial was carried out by Mayor Ferdinand Listner and builder Richard Wolf of Petrovic. The memorial was festively revealed on June 29, 1913 so that it would not interfere with the main celebration of August in Chlumci.

At the turn of the 1980s and 1990's, the monument passed a controversial repair during which the original inscriptions were replaced by a general dedication "to all the fallen." During the reconstruction in 2011 and 2013, his original form was returned to him and he received writing plates with original text.

Today Kleistův pomník is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. It is situated in the immediate neighbourhood of the place where the Baroque church of St. Joseph stood until 1975. In the vicinity is the so-called Napoleon Stone, revealed in 1998, which resembles the place where he was supposed to stand the tent of Emperor Napoleon I.

Kleistův pomník is not only a monument to historical significance, but also a witness to the transformation of the battlefield into a beautiful landscape. His visit offers a valuable insight into the history of the Battle of Chlumce and commemorates the heroism of generals Kleist and Moes von Nollendorf. For historically curious tourists, this monument is not only an important cultural monument, but also a place for reflection on the history of European wars against Napoleon's France.
