kostel Nejsvětější Trojice (Drnholec) Church

The Church of the Holy Trinity in the city of Drnholec in the district of Břeclav is a late Baroque temple that deserves the attention of its history and architecture. It stands in the centre of the town and serves as parish church of the parish Drnholec. As a cultural monument to the Czech Republic, it retains its originality from its inception until today.

On the site of today's church was originally a parish temple dedicated to St. Martin, which has been mentioned in writing since 1237. It was a Romanesque temple with one ship and a tower that stood north of the current building. But with time, it no longer met the growing needs of the believers. In the middle of the 18th century Drnholec decided to build a new temple corresponding to the period style. The project was developed by architect František Antonín Grimm in the style of the French classicist Baroque. The foundation stone was laid on 12 May 1750 and the building was finished and consecrated in 1757. The construction expenses were borne by Drnholec, Brod nad Dyjí and Novosedly together with private contributors - owners of the surrounding estate. The old parish church was not demolished, but was rebuilt into a rectory and served this purpose further.

Architecturally, the temple is a single-boat oriented building in the ground plan of the cross. The boat is equipped with a segmental priesthood, which complements four-sided buildings of the sacristy and chapel with a staircase to the oratory on the floor. The western facade with the main entrance is characterized by double towers. The facade is decorated with pilasters with risalite ended triangular shield. There is a balcony window above the entrance portal. The building is surrounded by a massive division ledge. The interior shows a distinctive baroque: the priesthood has a flat and condom-divided passports, as well as a boat, where a musical ring is hung between double passports. Sacristy and Chapel have valentine arches, north orator cross arches and south orator flat ceiling.

The interior is richly equipped. The main altar is contemporary with sculpting decoration by Ondrej Schweigl, in the middle with the painting of the Holy Trinity by Josef Stern and the plastas of Saint Cyril and Methodius. In the ship there are two opposite retabular altars with sterile images. The original elements include a pulpit, a baptist and an organ closet. The bells go through an interesting history - the ones from the original temple were hung into the towers of the new temple after his demolition. There is now a big bell in the towers from 1829 and two smaller bells from 1919. The organ suffered damage during the napoleonic wars. The Baroque statue of St. Florian from the 1920s, originally served at the Drnholek Town Hall, stands outside the western front. Next to the church is a Baroque statue of St. John Nepomuk from the second quarter of the 18th century, which resembles its original location on the bridge through Dyja.

The temple was heavily redeemed by World War II. During the transition of the front in 1945, the churches were badly damaged, but the reconstruction in 1950-1951 returned it to the usable state. New care was provided under the Architectural Heritage Rescue Programme, in which CZK 4 100 000 was drawn to repair the monument in the years 1995- 2014. The DrnholecKý church thus preserved itself as a testament to the centuries-old development of the sacral structure and piety of Moravian Slováck.
