The church of St. Catherine in the extinct village of Dolany in the district of Chomutov was a parish church of the local parish. The building was situated on an elevated location - in the cemetery above the village, which corresponded to the traditional settlement of village temples in Czech countries.
The history of the church is long and partially unclear. According to historian Antonín L. Frinda, the first Dolan church could exist in the eleventh century. The remains of the masonry found on the southwest edge of the village could belong to him. The existence of the parish was documented by written sources in 1352, when the parish paid a salary of 18 grosses. This shows a long continuation of the parish administration in this place.
During the 30-year war, the old church died. It was subsequently renewed in the early Baroque style in 1662. Restoration was part of the wider process of religious revival of Czech countries after war destruction.
In the eighteenth century, the temple gradually got into a bad technical state. General rounds in 1728 reported serious defects: the roof was damaged and flowed, the cross was rotten and large cracks formed in the wall. The tower wobbled in the wind. Moreover, Father Ignac Schwarz complained that the church space was too small. The vicar general Daniel of Mayern therefore authorised repairs on July 13, 1728. Their price was high: in addition to the construction costs, 3558 gold and sixty tailors were spent, a considerable sum for the rural parish.
The building character of the church was simple. It was a rectangular one-ship temple with smooth, undivided walls. There was a prism tower in front of the western front with a dismemberment of the presses from 1695. On the other hand, there was a presbytery dating back to 1662. The north side of the presbytery was adjacent to the sacristy and to the south chapel. The outside nobodies in the shadow of the feast of the statue of St. Catherine and St. Margaret.
In 1876 the church was newly consecrated under the patronage of the Virgin Mary.
The church no longer exists. It was demolished in 1967, along with the village of Dolany, because it stood in places designed to flood the water tank of Pherunice.

The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Catherine stood in the abandoned village of Dolany in the Chomutov district. It was the parish church of the Dolany parish and stood in the cemetery above the village green.
The origins of the church are uncertain. According to Antonín Frind, the first Dolany church could have stood as early as the eleventh century. Remains of masonry found on the southwestern edge of the village may have belonged to it. The church is documented in writing from the year 1352, when the parish paid a fee of eighteen groschen. According to local tradition, the old church was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. It was restored in the early Baroque style in 1662.
At the beginning of the eighteenth century it was in very poor condition. A description from 1728 mentions a damaged roof that was leaking, rotted timber and large cracks in the walls. The tower even swayed in the wind. The priest Ignác Schwarz also complained that the church was too small. The vicar general Daniel von Mayern therefore permitted repairs on the thirteenth of July 1728. In addition to construction costs, 3558 golden coins and sixty kreuzers were spent on them.
In 1876 the church was newly consecrated, this time to the Virgin Mary. Its end came in 1967. Together with the entire village it was demolished because it stood in the area that was flooded by the Nechranice water reservoir.
It was a rectangular single-nave church with smooth walls without articulation. In front of the western facade stood a prismatic tower from 1695, articulated with lesenes. On the opposite side was the presbytery, older than 1662. A sacristy was attached to its northern side, and a small chapel to the southern side. Statues of Saint Catherine and Saint Margaret stood in niches outside.
For kids
Imagine going back 364 years, until the church of St. Catherine was built in Chbana. The room where the memorial tree stands today was the grave place above the village. The church stood as a parish church in the parish of Dolany and its origin dates back to 1662.
