Under the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, there is a modest Church of the Holy Spirit. It is a single-boat Gothic building that has become closely linked to the hospital and care for orphans, sick and poor over its duration. Since 1444, he was officially referred to as a hospital church, which determined his role for the next centuries.

The church was built in 1440. Four years later, he was connected to a hospital that occupied the rooms of today's houses no. 128 and 96, connected by a single roof. At the top of the hospital, the lower city gate - a massive house with a high roof, where the guard lived and where the city prison was based. The church meeting was provided by various foundations, among which the Glatz and Jeschka families from Koldic were great. In the 15th century there is a mention of the priest Kašpar, who performed worship here in 1475.

However, the fate of the church has not always been favourable. In 1538 he was hit by a devastating fire - on June 22 the church burned down along with a hospital, a city spa and 27 nearby houses. But the desire for recovery remained frozen. In 1565, the church was rebuilt. A year later, in 1566, he took over the management of the restored hospital Lorenz Krause. The disaster was repeated: On March 3, 1629, the church again hit the fire and destruction part of the building up to the tower. The repairs weren't until after the 30-year war.

In the 18th century, the church was in misery. The financing of maintenance depended solely on the foundations that increased - in 1701, the bell of St. Wenceslas, who had been called by the poor people in the church in the morning, noon and evening bell - but their funds gradually melted. J. Friedrich Nievenheim's 300 gold foundation later grew into a total capital of 5176 gold (1791), but the poor management brought it down to only 2338 gold by 1811. In 1830, Krupa businessman Johann Wenzel Mayer founded a new foundation for the maintenance of a priest and his residence in a former hospital house.

During the reign of emperor Joseph, the church, like all non-parish temples, was closed. But the faithful Krupka decided to raise the money for his consecration, which took place in 1839 at the Holy Day. The ceremonial sermon was led by the lithomeric prefect Franz Xaver Effenberger. In 1851, the old hospital was cancelled; The church then bought half of it and set up an apartment for the priest Schürz. The foundation has repaired a church that got a new shale roof and a Gothic tower. In the 19th century it was famous for renovation under vicar Ludwig Meinle, who hired room painter Pieschel from Proboštov and restoration of Tittel from Bohosudova.

Today, the church is in a dismal state. Walls are wet, property relationships are unclear. During the 20th century, it was occupied by homeless and burglars, leaving mostly the wooden structure of the altar. Yet it remains protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic and testifies to centuries of care of the върaz most needy. / p >

The Church of the Holy Spirit in Krupka stands below the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It is a single-nave Gothic structure that was long associated with a hospital, which is why it was called the hospital Church of the Holy Spirit. Today it is a protected cultural monument.

The church was built in 1440 and four years later connected to the hospital. The hospital occupied the space of today's houses with descriptive numbers 128 and 96, which were connected by a shared roof. The lower city gate with the gatekeeper's apartment and city prison adjoined the hospital. In 1475 a priest named Kašpar is documented.

On June 22, 1538, the church burned down in a major fire that also destroyed the hospital, public baths, and 27 surrounding houses. It was rebuilt in 1565. Another fire on March 3, 1629, destroyed part of the church up to the small tower. The church underwent repairs only after the Thirty Years' War.

Money for maintenance came only from endowments and the church was in poor condition. About five poor people lived in it, and they rang the bells in the morning, at noon, and in the evening. The bell, however, did not hang on the church but on the hospital building, and in 1701 it was consecrated to Saint Václav. The endowment capital grew by 1791 to 5176 gulden, but due to poor management by the town council, it fell to 2338 gulden by 1811. Under Emperor Joseph, the church, like all non-parish churches, was closed. The faithful, however, collected money and on Whitsunday in 1839 it was reconsecrated.

In 1851 the old hospital was closed. From the endowment of Krupka merchant Johann Wenzel Mayer, the church was then repaired and received a slate roof and a new Gothic small tower. Later it fell into disrepair again and underwent renovation only under Vicar Ludvík Meinl.

In the twentieth century homeless people slept in the church and it was robbed, only the wooden structure of the altar remained. The walls are damp and the situation is complicated by unclear ownership relationships. The original tower was apparently removed in the middle of the twentieth century. It is replaced by a sheet metal small tower with a bell brought from Komáří vížka.

The church's appearance is determined by pointed windows with tracery and new stained glass and buttresses between them. A stone staircase leads to a plain pointed portal. The nave is covered by a cross vault with three bays, the presbytery by a fan vault. In front of the altar, beneath a tombstone slab, is the entrance to a crypt. It contains hospital patients who died of the plague.

For kids

More than 586 years ago, in a small village Krupka began building a special church as if someone had decided to build a home for souls instead of people. This was not just an ordinary church - it was supposed to serve as a refuge for the poor and the sick, as if it were a great adventure rescue station. And so the Church of the Holy Spirit began to be built. It was around 1440 when people had little money and even less necklace with commemorative coins.
