Kostel svatých apoštolů Jana a Pavla / svatého Jana Křtitele Church
The church of the holy apostles John and Paul in MalínA (district Kutná Hora) is among the oldest preserved sacral buildings in the Czech Republic. It stands on a historically important location of the original chateau of the eastern Bohemian Slavíkovice. Together with the church of St. Stephen, it is a dominant village.
The church was probably built at the end of the 10th century in Romanesque style, although this dating was not clearly confirmed during the survey. The historian Rudolf Turek attributed the construction of an otonian character and pointed out the similarity of the masonry with the church in the chateau of Libici. Václav Mencl considered the church a work of Slavíkovice. It was remodeled in the 12th century. At the beginning of the 14th century, the lower part of the tower was created, which was later, in the late medieval phase, strengthened the pillars.
In the first two decades of the 18th century, the church gained its present form in the spirit of Baroque Gothic. The windows with broken arches were created and the tower ended with a mansard roof with clock dial on three sides.
Dramatically, the circumstances have changed with the Josephine reforms. In 1787 the church was desecrated and sold at auction to the village. For more than a hundred years he served as a granary and an economic warehouse - for vegetables, planks, fire extinguisher. The interior was changed, the high windows were walled up.
New life came from 1920-1922. The newly founded Czechoslovak Church of Hussite took over its reconstruction: the overceiling was removed, the windows were restored, the space gained its original appearance. The Hussite Church has remained the owner until today. Another extensive renovation took place in 2007.
The visitor sees a single-boat church with an apsid and a northwest tower. The cemetery is surrounded by a wall with a decorated gate and two vases from the 18th century. The construction is protected as a cultural monument.

The Church of the Holy Apostles John and Paul in Malín in the Kutná Hora region was originally dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. Together with the Church of Saint Stephen, it is a landmark of the village. It ranks among the oldest preserved sacred buildings in the Czech Republic and belongs to structures that received a gothicizing appearance during the Baroque period. This style is called Baroque Gothic.
The church stands on a slope on the western side of Malín, at the site of the original fortress of the Slavníkovci. Art historian Václav Mencl considered it their work, since Malín with its mint belonged to them. Archaeologist Rudolf Turek pointed out the similarity of the masonry with the church at Libice castle. The Romanesque building thus probably originated at the end of the 10th century, though a survey did not definitively confirm this dating. In the 12th century, the church was rebuilt. The lower part of the tower dates from the beginning of the 14th century. Later, the tower was reinforced with buttresses at the western corners. The roof structure above the nave dates from the late Middle Ages. Windows with pointed arches are the result of a Baroque renovation from the first two decades of the 18th century.
During the Josephine reforms, the church was desecrated and in 1787 it was sold at auction to the village of Malín. It served as a storage for vegetables, boards, and farm implements. In 1822 it became a granary. The interior received a false ceiling and the tall windows were bricked up. At the end of the 19th century, fire-fighting equipment was stored on the ground floor and a granary remained on the upper floor. Between 1920 and 1922, the church underwent complete renovation for the needs of the newly established Czechoslovak Hussite Church, which remains its owner to this day. The false ceiling disappeared, the windows were restored, and a southern portal with a pointed arch was created. A commemorative plaque above the entrance recalls this renovation. Another major reconstruction took place in 2007. An archaeological survey at that time showed that the tower had been structurally secured several times, most recently in the twenties of the 20th century using a system of tie rods.
It is a single-nave rectangular structure with a flat ceiling. The nave is followed by a semicircular apse vaulted with a conch vault. On the western side stands a prismatic tower. It slightly rises above the roof of the nave and bears clock faces on three sides. In front of the western façade lies a cemetery enclosed by a wall. Its gate is decorated with two vases from the 18th century. The church is protected as a cultural monument.
