The townhouse No. 26 in Svatošov Street No. 8 is a Gothic building in the historical heart of the city, near Zizkov Square. The building excels with a preserved medieval cellar system. As part of the urban conservation, it illustrates the centuries-old development of urban development.

There are few reports of the oldest history of the house, yet its gothic origin is particularly evident underground. It was created at the time of the formation of Tábor as a Hussite Centre, when stone construction was developing in cities. Originally, the house no. 26 consisted of one unit with the neighbouring number 27. They were divided into two separate descriptive numbers only in 1803.

The current form of the house is based on modifications in the early 19th century, which gave it a classical character. The main two-axis facade culminates with a two-étaine triangular shield whose lower part is lined with volutes. Above the windows with bright rectangular champagne, there is a stucco framed four leaf under the main ledge. There was a significant change in the interior in 1906, when the original vaults replaced flat ceilings. The rear wing with staircase and new attic was created only during reconstruction in 1940. A significant element of the exterior is the stonework pavement on the northwest corner, transferred here from another building.

The house has suffered from neglected maintenance in the past. In 1939 he was even described as uninhabitable, which led to subsequent reconstruction in 1940. In 1970, a mandatory roof repair took place. The basement is technically remarkable; is divided into three levels, the lowest floor being 8,5 metres below yard level. At the entrance to these premises there is a gothic covered portal. The cellars are part of a large underground underground network that was carved into rock ground for storage and defence purposes in the 15th and 16th centuries.

The property is privately owned and registered as a real-estate cultural monument. The Department of Development of the City Office Tábor takes care of his condition in the framework of the protection of the urban conservation reserve.

The house represents valuable evidence of historical continuity of the camp building, where the Gothic foundations intersect with later modifications. The visit to the historical core Tábora allows you to look at the urban complex, which is among the most preserved in the Czech Republic.

Originally this house was part of one whole together with the neighbouring house No. 27, until 1803 they were divided into two separate entities. This historic moment has opened a new chapter for both objects. During the 19th century, the house was subjected to significant modifications that gave it its present form. Look up and notice the stonewalled pavement. This element is not only an architectural speciality, but also a historian; He was brought here from another building, which gives the house a stunning depth and myth.
