Mrázovský mlýn, located in Mrazov near Tehé in Cheb district, is a historic water mill built on the river Teplá north of the railway line. This building is part of the CHKO Slavkovský forest and protected as a real cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Its importance lies not only in its history, but also in architectural features, which represent a typical design of mills from the past.

The history of the Mrazovský mill dates back to 1741, when it was sold to premonstras from the Schwarz warm mill family. This family became the owner until the second half of the 20th century. In 1830 a significant modernization took place during which saw was added to the mill. This change reflected the need to adapt to technological progress and increase production capacity. In 1945, ownership moved to the hands of the national administrator and later the State Property, which was common to many assets after World War II. Since the 1990s the mill has been in the management of the Land Fund.

The architecture of the Mrazovský mill is characteristic of its time of origin and type of construction. The building is walled, single storey with a rectangular plan. The mills and the house are under the same roof, but dissociated. The rustic ground floor contains a hall with Prussian vaults, while the floor is divided by pilasters and has flat-ceiling rooms. The roof and shields are covered with shale, which gives the construction of a traditional look. Originally above the semi-circular glass inputs were placed flat vases which contribute to the historical character of the building.

The ownership and administration of the Mrazovský mill has undergone several changes. After the Schwarz family, who had been owners since 1741, he switched to the hands of the National Administrator and the State Farm after 1945. Since the 1990s, he's been in charge of the Land Fund. These changes reflect the wider historical events that shaped property ownership in the Czech Republic.

Among the key events in the history of the mill is the filming of the film "Ves in the Border" in 1947. Although most of the footage was recorded in nearby, already extinct Heights, Mrázovský mlýn provided an authentic environment for film production. This event highlights the cultural value and historical appearance of the building.

Today Mrázovský mlýn is in a condition that requires further maintenance and renewal. In 2008, the roof was repaired thanks to Land Fund interventions. Although most exteriors are preserved, some parts of the building require further care to be maintained for future generations.

Mrázovský mlýn is worth visiting not only as a reminder of the past, but also as a reminder of the technological and cultural development of the region. Its history and architecture offer a valuable insight into life and the work of miller workers from the past. Visiting this object offers an opportunity to appreciate not only its aesthetic value, but also the historical context in which it developed.

Mrázovský mlýn has its origin in 1741, when it was sold to premonstrators from the Schwarz warm mill family. This water mill is built on the river Teplá north of the railway line and its history dates back more than 300 years. In 1830 an important modernization took place during which saw was added to the mill, which reaffirmed its importance as a local industrial centre.

Architecturally, the Mrázovský mlýn is fascinating with its rustic floor with Prussian vaults and patrols with Pilasters, which provide an elegant and solid feel for the building. Note also the unique combination of living and working spaces under one roof, which is a characteristic feature of this time.

The key personalities associated with the Mrazov Mill include Heinrich Schwarz, who led the Schwarz family in the post-sale period. His legacy is still felt in the structure and history of this place.

The interesting thing is that in 1947 Mrázovský mlýn was used as a location for shooting part of the film "Ves in the Border," which shows its cultural value and beautiful atmosphere. In addition, in 2008, the roof was repaired by the Land Fund, which ensures the preservation of this historical work for future generations.

Let's move over and look at the elements. Now pay attention to the details that can escape at first sight: smooth shale cover and elegant pilasters that give the building its unique character.

Allow me to invite you to further explore this fascinating monument. Mrázovský mlýn offers many opportunities for curiosity and learning about past times, so let it go through step by step. Thank you for your visit and I hope this guide was fun and informative for you. Be happy in your other discoveries!

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit is the spring flowering season or the autumn coloured season, when the surrounding nature in the CHKO Slavkovský forest is the most outstanding. The morning light at the flow of the river Teplá gives the mill a calm and nostalgic atmosphere.

For families with children we recommend comfortable shoes suitable for nature walks by the water. It is good to take with you drinking water and possibly repellent if a longer stay is planned near the river flow.

For photography are the most suitable places near the river Teplá, where you can capture water glitter and historical architecture of the mill. The best light for landscape images in this area offers a golden hour just before sunset.
