The statue of St. John Nepomucký, located near Zázvorka in Nové Městí nad Metájí in the district of Náchod, is a Baroque sculpture built in history since 1709. This monument, protected as a cultural heritage, represents a copy of the famous work from the Charles Bridge in Prague. Located above the rocky massif on the left side of the square from Náchoda, it represents an excellent example of the ultimate Baroque sculpture technique. Its historical and cultural importance lies not only in aesthetics and location, but also in the role of the monument protected since 1958.

The work was installed on the forefront of the original Regional Gate on 11 May 1709 with a load of James Arnošt count from Leslie, which ranks it in the early Baroque period in Bohemia. Baroque as the dominant artistic style of the time affected not only architecture and sculpture, but also a wider cultural environment under Emperor Leopold I. Statue in New Town nad Metuji is therefore part of this wider artistic and historical tradition that has been shown in many Czech regions.

From the point of view of architecture the work represents the classical iconography of the Baroque period. Sculpture work is performed in life-size and shows the saint in mild contrast as she holds the crucifix in her left hand on her forearm. Sokl has a two-stage base with relief of angels and acantos, which is typical of Baroque style. On the pedestal is also the coat of arms of the Leslie family, which emphasizes the connection between artistic work and its founder. Latin inscriptions on the sides of the statue add another historical context.

Since 1709, the statue was owned by James Arnešt Count of Leslie, who installed it in the original place. For centuries, the monument has remained in the same place, and on 3 May 1958 it was officially declared a cultural monument, which ensures its protection for future generations.

This building in the New Town of Metájí is not only an important cultural monument, but also a fascinating example of baroque sculpture. The historical context and location make it important to understand the regional artistic heritage. For visitors this monument is accessible and offers a unique view of Baroque art in Bohemia.

The statue stands as a testament to the rich history and artistic spirit of the region. Its protection and maintenance ensure that this important contribution to the cultural heritage remains appreciated. For every visitor, it represents not only a visual but also a historical experience, which offers a deep insight into the past and artistic traditions of Bohemia.

Welcome to the beautiful city of Nové Město nad Metují. Right now, when you put your headphones on, they stopped in front of one of the most important and oldest symbols of this place. Look straight ahead. You see that figure looking up at you? You're standing in front of the statue of St. John Nepomuk. It is a work that carries within itself the soul of ancient times, and which has watched over this landscape for over 300 years. Feel the atmosphere as the statue sticks above the surrounding area and how its presence affects this entire space. There's something noble about it when you face a monument that has survived centuries past a century.

Let's go back to history together and understand how this work got to us. Now we need to move deeper into the past, namely the beginning of the eighteenth century. It's 700. At that time, the baroque style, a style full of emotion, movement and grandeur flourished throughout Eve. This statue is just such a baroque sculpture work. It's not just a piece of stone, it's an expression of the then faith and artistic feeling. It is fascinating that this statue has been standing here since the year seven hundred and nine, which means it has been part of the life of the people in this city since the world around us seemed much slower and simpler. This statue is not the original unique work created for this place, but it is a faithful copy of a very famous and famous work that you can see on Charles Bridge in Prague. In this way, even here in our city, this great saint became part of everyday life and brought to this area a piece of the highest culture in Prague.

Now pay attention to the work itself and to what you're seeing right now. Notice its size. The statue is life-sized, which means that your face will collapse, as if it were a living person who just stopped in time. This size gives the character both humanity and its sacred character. Although we do not know the name of the particular sculptor who created this work, his championship is evident in every detail of the baroque style that tries to capture movement and durability. Also look at where the statue is located. He's standing over a rock massif. This natural element significantly changes how you perceive the statue. The rock beneath it gives the character strength and at the same time visually emphasizes it. This combination of human art and harsh, natural nature creates an unmistakable visual impact that must reach you. The statue appears to be part of the country itself, as if it had grown directly from these rocks.

However, in order to understand the full importance of this place, we need to mention one very important person. This story would not be complete without the name of Count James Arnešt of Leslie. It was he who decided to place this statue. Imagine the ceremonial moment when this work was first revealed on the 11th of May in the year seven hundred and nine. Count Jakub Arnešt of Leslie had the statue placed on the forefront of the original Regional Gate. This was a significant place at the time, a gateway to the city where the statue served as both spiritual and visual protection for everyone who entered the city. Thanks to his decision and his will, this monument is still part of our heritage. The count at that time formed the history of this place and its influence on what our city looks like today is still evident.

You might find one interesting thing that gives this place weight. This work is not just a historical object that just stands outside. It has strong legal protection. Since nine hundred and fifty-eight, this statue has been officially declared a cultural monument. This means that its value for all of us is so high that we must ensure that it is preserved for future generations. It is proof of the deep roots of this baroque saint in our culture and how much we value the art that connects us to our ancestors. It's a monument that teaches us to respect and cherish history.

You're standing here in front of a statue, which is the classic form of a saint, and yet you can feel something still alive in it. It's fascinating how one piece of treated stone can become such an important point in the landscape.

I hope that this short journey through history has enriched you at least a little bit, and that you have found a moment with this statue to see beauty and history. You still have beautiful surroundings and many other secrets waiting for your discovery. So keep walking, feel the atmosphere of our city and enjoy every moment. Thank you for being with us.
