The Sokolovna in Český Broda is one of the oldest buildings of this type in the Czech Republic. It was built in 1884 and has since served as a cultural and social centre of the city. Its events are closely related to the development of the Sokol movement at the end of the 19th century, when intense national and cultural awakening took place in the Czech countries. Since 2015 the monument has been protected as a cultural heritage.

The construction came from the need to provide space to the growing member of Sokolský unity in Český Broda, founded in 1870. An important milestone was the project approval during the general meeting on 6 April 1884. The project of local architect Jan Koula won from five designs. The implementation began with the laying of the base stone on 15 June of the same year. The first ceremonial performance took place in December 1884 and the official opening took place in August of the following year.

The architecture of the building is characteristic for its time and emphasizes both functionality and aesthetics. The original construction from 1884 was later extended by other wings and halls, which enabled its adaptation for various cultural events. Not only Jan Koula, but also his pupil Josef Poselt, who was involved in the design passport in the main hall, contributed to the decoration. Wooden carved ceilings and cassette ceiling painted by Antonín Balšanka provide the interior with a unique atmosphere.

Since its foundation, the Sokolská Unity in Český Broda has taken care of the building, which has provided its administration and maintenance. During its existence, the falcon went through several stages of development and depreciation. This happened especially in the 1970s when the northeast wing with a theatre dressing room was demolished and replaced by a new one in socialist style.

Key events include a ceremonial opening, attended by prominent persons, such as music composer Antonín Dvořák or politician T. G. Masaryk. A unique element is also the curtain "The tribute to the falcons," which after years was returned and restored to the hall.

Today the falcon boasts a rich history and a modern approach to cultural events. Once the facade has been restored and the windows have been replaced, the building is once again accessible to the public and offers a view of the city's heritage and the Sokol movement itself. History and architecture make it not only a monument worthy of protection, but also a valuable place for interested people interested in the cultural heritage of the Czech Republic. Sokolovna in Český Broda is therefore not only a witness of the past, but also a living centre of contemporary cultural life, which is worth visiting every lover of history and culture.

Welcome to Czech Broda. You're standing right in front of a building that carries the incredible power of the past and that is an absolutely crucial symbol for this city. In front of your eyes is a falcon house, a building that is not just an ordinary house, but a living witness to many decades of social and cultural life. Feel the atmosphere of a place that has been the heart of this city since its inception. Now, when you look at its facade and its overall form, try to imagine how many people have gone through these thresholds, how many voices have been heard and how many events this building has experienced. It's a place where history meets the present, and you are now part of this story.

Let's go back together to when everything started here. More than a century and a half ago, exactly in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, the first foundation stone was laid here. It was a period of great change and growth when people were looking for places to connect, build their identity and form the future together. A year later, in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five, the ceremonial opening of this building took place. Since then, from the end of the nineteenth century, this building has been a permanent cultural and social centre. It was not just a building for exercise, but a place for meetings, for art, for political and social discussion. Over many years, the building has expanded and rebuilt several times to meet the growing needs of the people who have surrounded it. Each of these changes added another layer to its rich history.

Now pay attention to the architecture itself that you are currently observing. This building was not built randomly. Her face was shaped by two important creators, which were Jan Koula and Josef Poselt. If you're looking at her look now, notice how two important properties connect. The architecture of this falcon house places great emphasis on making the building not only aesthetically pleasant, but above all practical and useful. It's a combination of beauty and functionality. The creators wanted to create a space that would be noble, but at the same time will meet all demands for social and cultural use. Feel the harmony the architects tried to achieve. This building is not just a street decoration, it's a premeditated entity to serve people. And that's why this building is so special. Its value was so high that since the year two thousand and fifteen this object has been officially protected as a cultural monument. This means that its appearance and its essence must be preserved for future generations, so that even in the next hundred years people can stand here and feel the same amazement as you are right now.

When you look at this building, you might be wondering what great personalities might have been present here. And the truth is, this falcon house witnessed the presence of real greats. Imagine what music pieces could have happened here. The famous musician Antonín Dvořák, whose work is among the greatest treasures of our culture, visited this place. There are probably tones that were played by Jan Kubelík or Jindřich Mošna. It was also possible to hear the art of the Glass Lesser. This building was a place where the best of art and culture met. But it wasn't just a place for music. It was a place for the people who shaped our history. President T. G. Masaryk also moved in these premises. Imagine the seriousness and importance of the moments that took place here when the people who were changing the direction of our nation were passing through. This building was a space where art, politics and everyday social life clashed.

Do you feel that this place is hiding any more interesting things? One of the biggest is the fact that the falcon house in Český Broda belongs to the oldest buildings of this type throughout our country. It's a real one that tells the story of tradition and the power of the community. And if you ever get inside, you should be looking for something very special. In the year one thousand and nine hundred and eleven, a beautiful curtain was created called "The Honor of the Sokol." It is an object that carries within itself the spirit of that time and which is proof of the rich cultural life that has been taking place here for decades. This curtain is not just a piece of cloth, it is a symbol of respect and tradition that still resonates in this place.

Now that you've been through basic history and you've seen some of the faces that have shaped this place, I suggest you continue your tour of the area. This building is just the beginning of a big story that takes place in this city. Feel this atmosphere, look at the details, and let yourself drift through the history that is all around you. Thank you for stopping by and devoted some of your time to this memory. We wish you a nice walk by Český Brod and we hope that this brief look into the past has brought you joy and new insights. Goodbye.
