The Old Provost on Vyšehradá is an interesting Baroque building, which served as a residence for the property Vyšehrad. This architectural jewel was built between 1708 and 1722 by the company Matěj Macht, which is part of the Prague Capital City. As part of the national cultural heritage Vyšehrad is an example of baroque influence in the Czech Republic during the Habsburg monarchy. The building has a neoclassical facade with preserved baroque elements such as portico. Its interior boasts Jan Ferdinand Schor frescoes, restored in 1995 after being covered in 1960.

The origin of the Old Probostship comes from when chapter Vyšehrad acquired land from the property Jan Kapoun z Karlova. After his death, this country and its buildings became part of the property of this chapter. In the early 18th century, during important architectural projects such as the Baroque transformation of the church of St. Peter and Paul, Matěj Macht, then the Capitular Dean, gained a place to build a modest residence for himself. This building later served as an official residence for the pronost Vyšehrad until 1874, when a new Probostship was built nearby.

Architecturally, the Old Probostness blends baroque and neoclassical styles. Initially built Matěj Macht as a modest Baroque structure, it underwent modifications in 1817 which introduced a neoclassical facade and replaced its original oval windows with rectangular windows. The building has a single-storey design with a symmetrical main western front on the street, characterised by a central risalite, which ends with a glazed roof. His baroque portico remains intact, adding to his historical charm. Inside you will find a large hall decorated with frescoes of Jan Ferdinand Schor, which depicts illusionary architecture supplemented by visual and decorative motifs.

The property switched from Matěj Macht to subsequent provocation after his death in 1719. The structure remained under their control until the end of the 19th century, when a new Probostness was created nearby, indicating a significant shift in its use and management. Despite these changes, the Old Proboshdom has retained much of its historical significance.
