Zámek Hrubšice Chateau

Zámek Hrubšice is located on the eastern edge of the village Hrubšice, which is part of the town of Ivančice in the district of Brno-venkov. It is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The place where it stands today has undergone an interesting transformation from the Middle Ages to the New Testament, which is documented by the written sources and the construction itself.

In this place, the fort is mentioned already in 1555. During the second half of the 16th century the fortress was gradually transformed into a Renaissance castle mansion. Hrubšice was in the range of 1558-1598 a separate farm of gentlemen from Lipé, separated from the Moravian Krumlov estate. The builder of the castle was very likely Berchtold Bohosud z Lipé, who began to build his chateau here. The construction seems to have incorrified the mass of the original fortress to some extent. The construction took longer than can be expected: when Berchtold Bohosud took over his father Moravský Krumlov in 1598, the construction was not yet completed. The final work took place after 1600. From then on the castle lost its prestigious residential function and reduced itself to the place of economic management of the farm. Later, there were also civil servants.

The original architecture expresses the ambition of its time. It was a three-wing building with a courtyard open to the south. The north and east wing contain arcades that can pass through the passage planted through the barefoot portal in the north wing. This typical Renaissance composition was later supplemented by a southern wing, which was probably built in the 18th century. This addition turned the construction into a quadruple available and the originally open courtyard was gradually closed. Today the castle is privately owned.
