Beseda v Táboře Townhouse

The town house U Ličnoc is located on the north side of Žižkov Square (until 1878 called Ring) in Tábor, on the area of 533 square meters. It is part of the historical core of the Old Town, which was declared a national cultural monument in 1962 - Tábor became the only city in the CSSR to which this honor was received at that time. The construction represents a medieval Gothic construction with a dominant facade marked by a Renaissance reconstruction that was set up in the city centre.

The oldest mention of the house dates back to 1438, when they describe it as a Gothic house next to the temple. The builder was master Staněk z Menšího města Pražského, who was also the author of the neighbouring church of the Lord's Change. In 1440 he became the owner of the house Martin Lichvička (or Jan Lichvice), a souvenir, and the house belonged to the family Ličnočkovský until 1569. In the first half of the 16th century, the family belonged to the camp councilmen.

The big fire from 1532, which seized a significant part of the central area of the city, partially damaged the house. Between 1537 and 1552 he then underwent an extensive Renaissance reconstruction during which his dominant arched spaces were created. The original Gothic hall was preserved in the interior for guests. At the latest in the mid-16th century, large three-storey cellars of approximately 150 square metres were built in the house. Their existence suggests that Jan Ličnoc led his brewery here - apart from selling the skirt, he ran a beer and wine. Tábor was at that time an important centre for brewing, where about 45,000 hectolitres of beer were created each year, and the right of war had many local townhouses.

After 1569 the house was gradually decayed, various owners, including carmelitans, took turns. In 1744, part of the ceiling on the first floor collapsed. In 1777, Carmelitans sold the building to the royal postmaster Josef Čezhkovsky. In the 18th and 19th centuries, it served various public purposes - regional government, municipal administration, financial offices and self-government. Over the years, the house has undergone numerous repairs and modifications. In 1913, there was a coffee shop. In 1933, the hotel Jaroslav Teverný bought it, put it in its original state and changed the name from "Formanka" to "Beseda.".

Today the house serves as a restaurant Beseda with a beer museum and a mini brewery. In the seventies of the 20th century, there was its room called the City Contest and the Club of Friends of Sciences and Arts, which was founded in 1875. The club was led by members of the professorship and held regular Saturday lectures. The house thus represents not only a unique architectural complex, but also a place with a rich social history Tábora.
