Čermákův dům House
Čermákův dům (no. 55 / 15) is located on the north side of Přemysla Otakar II. in the town conservation in České Budějovice 1. It's a townhouse with a late Gothic core and a Renaissance-Baroque front. The building is a protected cultural monument. It is particularly remarkable with its two arcades and a preserved home chapel.
The construction in its current form combines various architectural styles. While the core comes from late Gothic, the facade bears the signs of the Renaissance and Baroque. In the interior is preserved former home chapel from late goth. The typical element of the building is an arcade lined with two arcades.
The history of the house is closely linked to its owners and social changes in the city. In 1493, the owner Kryštof Hayder had a private chapel dedicated to St. Mary Magdalena. In 1543 the property was sold by Margaret Spulířová, the daughter of Petr Beran, Jan Spuléř of Jiter for the price of 772 kicks. The contract was written in Czech by the city scribe Jan Petřík of Benešov.
At the beginning of the 17th century the house was owned by Erazim Matyáš ze Sudetu, to which the building was seized for participating in the state uprising. Although the city scribe Jan Karmenský applied for it, in 1624 he was occupied by imperial general Baltasar Marradas. He subsequently donated it in 1627 to Servati della Foss, son-in-law of Mayor Kaspar Daudlebski, as a reward for loyalty.
In 1682, for the possession of Kristian Arnoš Koch, the house chapel was dedicated to Saint Anne. Later, between 1731 and 1782, the Czech-Budějovic Post Office was located here. In 1774 the house was purchased by the city physician Dr. Med. Evžen Mac Mahon. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the building was owned by the family of Cermák, from which it gained its current name.
Today Čermákův dům testifies to the development of urban architecture and social changes in the city centre. It represents a valuable addition to the Square of Přemysla Otakar II and reminds of the ages from the late Middle Ages to modern history. Visiting this object offers insight into the history of Budějovice township.

Seasonal recommendations
In the spring, the surroundings of the house are awakened into colours and fresh sun rays light the facade gently. It is an ideal time for a short walk when the air is fresh and nature begins to bloom around. We recommend light spring clothes and a visit in the morning when the light is the cleanest.
In the summer months, the space of intense heat and bright, sharp light dominates the building's details. In the main season there are more people in the streets, therefore it is best to choose the time early in the morning or late in the evening when the temperature is more pleasant. Don't forget the comfortable shoes and sun protection.

Zimą works in contrast to cool air and possible snow, which gives it a calm and dreamy look. In advent time, the surroundings are lit and cozy. It is necessary to wear warm winter clothes and firm shoes, the best is to attach a short tour in the time of lit street lamps.
