Důl Hubert Mine

Důl Hubert was located in Hrušov in close proximity to the railway Přerov-Bohumín, in the southeast part of the river Odra and Ostravice. It belonged to the mines of Ferdinand, one of the most important mining companies in Ostrava.

The survey of the territory began in 1850, when the work was done here. The excavated pit originally carried the names František and later Old Hubert. In 1854, the Klein brothers' mining company founded a new mine knowing that the pit would serve as a mining and water facility. In 1855 it had a depth of twenty-four metres and there was an open coal fold of a power of one and a half meters. The mining tower was wooden, 12 metres high, there was a new building above the pit and there was a steam engine with 30 horsepower. The mine was named after the youngest of the Klein brothers, Hubert. In the same year, it was purchased by the exclusively privileged Northern Ferdinand.

The mine was subject to gradual expansion. By 1863, the depth increased to 150 meters. In the following decades, the capacity of the pump system increased intensively - from 1860 to 1875 there was a pump powered by a steam engine with a power output of two hundred and fifty horsepower. The first major modernization took place between 1870 and 1876. A wind pit of the same name was established, which was dug out in 1873. Two years later, a wind pit took over the function of a water pit. It was equipped with a Rittinger fan and later a Guibala with power up to a thousand two hundred thirty cubic meters per minute.

By the beginning of the twentieth century, the mine continued to improve. Steel mining tower, 19 and 7 tenths meters high, has been standing here since 1898. More powerful fans were gradually installed - in 1902 the Hasbach-Hübner system was added with a power output of four thousand cubic metres per minute, in 1911 another fan with a power output of four and a half thousand cubic metres per minute, powered by an electric motor with a power output of one hundred forty horsepower.

The most powerful reconstruction was a complex reconstruction between 1924 and 1928. The mine was fully electrified. The new steel lattice tower, supplied by Vítkovické železárny, was 36 metres. The mining pit was extended to a circular cross-section with a diameter of six metres and deepened to a depth of three hundred eighty-six metres, later to a four-hundry of seventy-four and a half meters. The new mining machine from 1927 was powered by an electric motor powered by direct current via the Ward- Leonard-Ilgner converter with a power output of 500 horsepower. The blast cages were three stories. There were five centrifugal pumps and three air pumps for drainage.

In 1945 the Hubert mine was nationalized and in early 1946 it was incorporated into the expanding Ostrava mining industry.
