On the former village Herbertova, now part of the Upper Brod, stands the Chapel of St. Hubert - a simple but historically valuable building. Herbertov itself carries a complex past: since 1961 it has become part of the city of Higher Brod in the Český Krumlov district of South Bohemia.

The chapel was built in the middle of the 19th century and its architecture reflects a traditional approach to the construction of rural sacral structures. It has a rectangular plan with a triangular conclusion - a simple, efficient solution that served the local community of believers.

The fate of the chapel, however, is inherent in the fate of the region. After World War II and the subsequent displacement of the indigenous people, the chapel was not properly maintained. Decades of neglect have left a deep mark. On 4 April 2022, a state of emergency was established at the chapel - the crows and the ceiling were demolished, threatening the preservation of the remaining historical elements. The only positive was the preservation of the original sandbox that was deposed so that a new chapel tower could be established later.

The change began in 2021 when the chapel became the property of the city of Higher Brod. In 2025, the city also secured the land through which the road to the chapel leads. Since 9 September 2022 the chapel has been formally protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The city of Higher Brod is now preparing its reconstruction.

St. Hubert's Chapel is waiting today. She is waiting for a reconstruction to restore her earlier appearance, and for visitors who will be able to go through Herbertov's history and understand how local believers remembered their rainbow roots. Coming here is an opportunity to see how the city gradually returns dignity to its cultural monument.

The Chapel of Saint Hubert stands in Herbertov, on the site of a former village green. This is why it is also called the green chapel. Herbertov used to be an independent village, but since 1961 it has been part of the town of Vyšší Brod in the Český Krumlov district.

The chapel was built in the middle of the nineteenth century. It has a rectangular floor plan and a triangular apse. After the Second World War, the original inhabitants were evacuated and nobody properly maintained the building. The chapel gradually deteriorated until its state of disrepair was officially documented on April fourth, 2022. The roof and ceiling had collapsed.

The original bell turret, a small tower on the roof, was removed and stored. It will serve as a template for a new turret. Since September ninth, 2022, the chapel has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

Since 2021, the chapel has been owned by the town of Vyšší Brod. In 2025, it also acquired the land through which the path to the chapel leads. The town is now preparing its reconstruction.
