The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is the parish church of the parish Jihlava - Mother of God and part of the functional Minorite monastery, which forms the cultural monument of Jihlava. The initiator of its construction was řád minoritů, whose Jihlava Convention still manages it.

The church was established together with the monastery in the early part of Jihlava, approximately in the middle of the 13th century. From the 13th century, the bulk of the perimeter walls and vaults of ships and priesthood come. The building was gradually expanding - in the 1980s, two capitals were added to the western ship, and an occipital bell was turned off over their crossing. At the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, the priesthood was extended, closed by a five-sided conclusion and on its eastern side added the chapel of St. Wolfgang. A more fundamental transformation was brought by the Baroque in the 1930s, when a new facade was created with pilasters and niche for statues, entrance hall and in 1756 a circle. The cemetery at the church was abolished in the second half of the 16th century. During the year 1784 during the church, a parish was established with a secular priest, to whom the Minorites were chaplain; The Minorites took over the parish administration in 1800. The Monastic Complex regained the Provinces of the Order of Minority in the Czech Republic as a historical property in 1998.

The church is characterized by unusual orientation - its priesthood does not go east, as is usual for churches, but south. According to legend, this direction refers to the hometown of the founder of St. Francis of Assisi. The construction consists of three ships separated from the priesthood by a transverse ship. In the west side of the transverse ship is the chapel of the Divine Heart of Jesus (originally the chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and Saint Anne). In the northern part of the western ship is connected to the Chapel of the Virgin Mary the Auxiliary (originally the Chapel of St. Wenceslas). A brick occluded bell tower is switched off above the crossing with the main boat. The facade of the church is decorated with five statues located in the nineyards - at the very top of the statue of the Virgin Mary, in the setting of St. Bonaventura and St. Louis of Toulouse, in the lower part of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Anthony of Padua. The interior decoration is worth paying attention to the wall image of the Ambush of Jihlava from 1402, which represents perhaps the oldest famous vedute depicting the city of Jihlava. The church also contains three statues of saints - Barboras, Margaret and Catherine. In the Chapel of the Divine Heart of Jesus he is exposed from advent to thunder.

The church, which once dominated the city's silhouette, gradually lost its leading position due to the construction of adjacent townhouses and the increase of surrounding terrain by 100 to 120 centimetres. To this day, the Holy Mass is held daily and the church remains in the property of the Province of the Order of Minority in the Czech Republic. In the monastery garden are located the remaining four sculptures from the extinct Cross Road.
