Sluncová Summer palace

The Sluncová, a classicist letohrádek in Prague-Karlín, has stood for over three centuries. Initially a baroque usedlost, it now serves as a representative and educational facility, protected by cultural heritage laws.

The Sluncová's origins date back to the mid-17th century, when it was first documented. The usedlost underwent gradual construction from this time period, with its classicist appearance emerging after a rebuild in the late 18th century. During this era, Prague experienced significant cultural and architectural changes, with Baroque style dominating European architecture.

Throughout its history, the Sluncová has had several owners. Initially, it belonged to Josef Slunec in the mid-17th century, followed by Jan Jiří Reischmann z Rieschenberka in 1682. The usedlost then passed to Judita Reischmannová after Reischmann's death and later Anna Reischmannová owned it in 1714. In 1762, the Voříkovští z Kunratic family acquired the property, before Julius Haine purchased it in 1870.

The Sluncová has undergone several transformations. A grotta with a chapel was built near the usedlost in the late 18th century, and the building itself was rebuilt in a classicist style around this time. In the mid-20th century, the Sluncová was reconverted into a representative and educational facility.

Today, the Sluncová is a protected cultural monument and a popular tourist destination. Visitors can explore its unique architecture and learn about its rich history. The surrounding area features several notable landmarks, including the railway station Sluncová and the estakáda Sluncová, part of the New Connection Železniční uzlu Praha.
