The statue of Saint Judy Tadeas is a Baroque sandstone work from 1767. It stands in the part of Roudá in the village Babina which falls under the city Plasy in the district of Pilsen-North. The monument is located near the former hunting grounds and since 20 February 1964 it has been officially registered as a cultural monument.

The creation of the statue is due to the period of the high baroque and the beginning of the European Enlightenment. In Czech countries this period was characterized by the bloom of sacral sculpture in the landscape. However, the author of a particular work in Rouda has not yet been designated.

From the point of view of art processing it is a sandstone sculpture in Baroque style. The figure of the saint is shown in contrast to the esoteric movement of the body. Saint Jude Tadeas is depicted with a plain-haired head curled up, dressed in sandals and dressed in an antikifying dress. In his right hand he holds a book and a club, while in his slightly curved left hand he grips the cartouche with the relief of Christ's head.

The entire object lies on a prism plinth ending with a profile plate. It's got a narrowed volcano on it. Its rear side remained simple, while the front is carved year by year. The base is a low plintus with the cornered corners on which the statue stands.

The work represents an example of period religious art and is an important detail within the Roudá site. Thanks to the cultural heritage status, it is protected as a historical artifact from the second half of the 18th century.

Visiting this statue offers the possibility to observe authentic Baroque detail and specific iconographic elements of Saint Judy Tadeas. It's a valuable stop point for anyone interested in sacral art in the Pilsen-North district.

Welcome to the village of Babina, in its part called Roudá. Right now, you're standing in front of a silent but very noble witness of ancient times. There's a sandstone statue of Saint Judy Tadeas in front of you. Feel her presence in the landscape, where history is linked to nature. It is a work that brings peace and depth to this place, and although there are many beautiful places around, this character has its own irreplaceable energy.

Let us now stop at how this sculpture was created and at what time it was placed in this space. Take your thoughts deep into the past, namely seven hundred and sixty-seven years. At that time, the Baroque era ruled in art and architecture, which emphasized emotions, movement and spiritual uprising. It was this year that the statue was cut from the sandstone and built here, near the former hunting ground. Imagine what this place looked like over two centuries ago, how people walked through this time and how this statue served as a spiritual beacon for all those who passed through here.

Now pay attention to the appearance of the Holy One. Look carefully at the details in front of you. Note that Saint Judy Tadeas is depicted in a dress that resembles clothes from ancient Roman times, which gives him a timeless and noble appearance. Look at his feet, where he wears sandals. It's fascinating to see how the author caught the look on his face. Note that the saint has no hair covered and his head is slightly curled up, as if he was listening to something invisible or seeking answers in heaven.

Let's focus on what the saint holds in his hands because these objects are not random. In the right hand, the Holy One holds a book that symbolizes wisdom and the word of God, and at the same time a club, which is a traditional sign associated with his person. In his left hand, he holds the cartouche, which is a decorative frame in which the relief, the exiting image, represents the head of Christ. These details tell us a story about faith and loyalty, which should be understood to anyone who acceded to the statue.

When we think about the people involved in this place, we come across an interesting fact. Although the work is masterful and detailed, the identity of the particular author who created this statue in Rouda remains unknown to this day. It's basically an anonymous gift from the past. We don't know who the craftsman was, who was holding this sandstone with a chisel, but his work survived for centuries, and today he's still with us. This ignorance gives the memory a certain fall and mystery.

Here we come to the part that may be interesting to you. Note that this statue is not just a local ornament, but it has a true recognised meaning. Since the twenty-first day of February in the year one thousand nine hundred and sixty-four, this object has been officially registered as a cultural monument. This means that the state has recognised its historical and artistic value and decided that it must be protected for future generations. It is a recognition that even in a small village, in the part of Roudá, there is a jewel worth paying attention to.

Try to stand there for a while and perceive the atmosphere of this place. Imagine how many generations of people have seen this statue, how many prayers have been said here and how many silent thought has been done here. With time, the sandstone from which the statue is made gains its characteristic patina, which gives the monument dignity. It is a fascinating notion that this stone has been standing here for nearly 300 years and is observing the changes in the world around it.

Now that you've looked at all the details, from sandals to books to looking up, I suggest you let your curiosity lead you further. Explore the surroundings, perceive the silence of this location, and you may discover other traces of history waiting for your discovery. This statue of Saint Judy Tadeas is just one of the many stories that this landscape carries.

Thank you for spending a moment with us at this beautiful Baroque monument. We hope that you are interested in her quiet presence and that you are leaving with a new feeling for this place. We wish you a pleasant further journey and many other discoveries while exploring your surroundings. Goodbye.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit is late afternoon when the sun hits the sandstone surface at an angle, which will highlight the details of baroque carving.

We recommend to travel in our own car or use available public transport; Check the current connection and stop options in maps or search engines. Due to the position close to the former hunting grounds, it is advisable to put your shoes in the field.

For the best photos we recommend looking for angles that capture the statue together with the surrounding nature of the village Babina. The perfect light to capture the words of Saint Judy Tadeas is during the golden hour before sunset.

Families with children can join the visit with a short walk around Rouda where children can explore nature and look for clues of history in the landscape. Since this is an object in space, the tour is easy and fast.

Seasonal recommendations

In spring, the surroundings of the statue awaken in green and the fresh colors of nature create fresh sets for the stone painting. We recommend a visit in the morning when the light is fine. Due to the variable weather, it is advisable to choose layered clothes and moisture resistant shoes.

In the summer months, the clear sun and hot air dominates the space, which highlights the details of the statue. The best time for arrival is time shortly before sunset, when shadows are longest and the atmosphere is quieter. Remember light fabrics and protection from direct sunlight.

Autumn brings golden shades of leaves and melancholy mood to the plasma, which matches the historical character of the monument. The lighting is soft and warm during this period, which is ideal for observing the sculpture. We recommend a warm sweater and comfortable shoes for a walk.

Zimą can be covered with snow and freeze, which gives her a strict but noble look. In advent time the surroundings are quiet and there is a special calm. Very warm clothing, layering and non-slippery shoes are essential for visitors to avoid accidents on the frozen road.
