The brewery in Hořice, known as the Expivator, is a historic complex with roots dating back to the 14th century. Located in the same town on the northeast edge of Riegrov Street. The area was declared a cultural monument in 2002 and is now known not only for its history, but also for the renewed production of beer under the brand JungBerg.

The brewery has a long tradition dating back to the 14th century when it was first mentioned. At the time of the reign of Smiřický z Smiřice the brewery in Horice began to develop. The original building of the brewery stood in the square, but was demolished at the order of Albrecht of Valdštejn. Later, a new brewery was built near the castle, but due to the inappropriate quality of the water from the well it was necessary to import water from the creek. Although in 1770 the brewer came up with the idea of taking water from the gothard well, the spring was lost during digging.

A significant change for the brewery was brought about by the purchase of a public limited company on 5 September 1872. The brewery was then for 70,000 Gold Buys and the first batch of beer was rolled on 17 March 1873. New owners decided to rebuild the complex between 1885 and 1895. Neo-Renaissance architectural principles and progressive construction procedures were applied in the construction of the new site. Material for construction, sandstone, came from a quarry near St. Joseph in Horice.

In 1901 the brewery was electrified and it started to boil both ten and twelve-degree beer. The brewery prospered, which led to the purchase of the Workers' House (today the House of Culture of the Crown) in 1915 for 34,000 Korun. 18812 hectolitres of beer were rolled in 1925, which proves the success of the burning brewery at exhibitions and competitions.

After the Second World War, the brewery was nationalized and reassigned under the Podkrkonoše breweries no., later under the Hradec breweries. At the turn of the '50s and' 60s, the Burmese beer was referred to as "the second Pillow." In 1960 the owner became a national enterprise of the East Bohemian Brewery, but after 1966 the quality of beer began to decline. Due to the contamination of the water from the ČSAO plant, beer production was definitively discontinued in June 1976 and a soda factory was established on the premises.

In 2002 the brewery area was declared a cultural monument. A year later, he went into private hands, where the new owners sensitively reconstructed and put the bar and restaurant into operation. In 2017, beer production under the JungBerg brand was renewed.

The area of the brewery is a one-way building with five transverse valences of arched spaces, an operating building with a hot tub and a cold-proof bottler. The eastern facade is connected with a staircase annex and valuable fencing. Today there is the JungBerg brewery, Old Times restaurant, ice cream stand and Stressbar.

The brewery in Hořice is not only a monument to the Czech brewery, but also a testament to historical changes and adaptations. His presence on the local market today promises visitors not only quality beer, but also the opportunity to explore the rich history of the Czech brewery. It is a place worth visiting both in terms of cultural heritage and gastronomic experiences.
