Let's stop at the very origin of this place. The chapel was completed and ceremonially consecrated in 1865. So imagine the period of the mid-nineteenth century when the sacral building was needed right in the cemetery, so that there could be room for a final farewell and for liturgy accompanying the passing of the loved ones. The chapel was dedicated to Saint Cyril and Methodius, to whom in our countries we pay deep respect as teachers and propagators of Christianity among the Slavs. Although today we do not know exactly who was the author of the architectural plan, because the names of the architects remained in oblivion, the construction is fulfilling its purpose with a subtle elegance.

Now I invite you to listen to the details that make up the soul of this place. If you look at the outer appearance, you'll see a structure that harmoniously complements with the surrounding area. Do not look here for an exaggerated luxury, but rather for honesty and humility, which is typical of the cemetery chapel. Notice how the building acts as an anchor in the cemetery space. It's where time stops and history meets the present.

When we move to the inner space, the chapel becomes truly fascinating. The interior is not just a room for ceremonies, but it is a space enriched with the works of a man who was closely connected to this city. It's Gustav Vack, an academic painter and a native from the Red Church. It's very beautiful when an artist returns to his home to enrich his talent where he grew up. Vacek left here two major paintings that the chapel gives depth and emotional charge.

Pay attention to the entrance now. It is here that you are welcomed by the painting of the Virgin Mary and Jesus. It is a symbol of hope and a new beginning that welcomes everyone who enters the chapel. It's a fine painting to prepare a visitor for a spiritual experience. But if you move deeper into space and head to the altar, you will see a second, much stronger image. It's a depiction of the Painful Virgin Mary. This contrast between the joy of the birth of Jesus at the entrance and the pain of the mother at the altar accurately outlines the meaning of the cemetery chapel. It's a journey from hope to suffering to faith in something higher.

In addition to the visual experience, the chapel offers an auditory experience. Look at the organ. These historical instruments were installed in 1873, eight years after the consecration of the chapel. Organs in such a small space can create incredible acoustics that surround every listener. It's fascinating that these organs were only in their original state, but they were reconstructed. Their register layout has been supplemented, which means that a range of sounds has spread that the tool can produce. Thanks to this repair, the organ is not just a liturgical tool, but it is also adapted for concert purposes. Imagine how the organ tones extend through the quiet space of the chapel and connect the earth to the sky.

But the history of this chapel is not just a story of peace and art. The place where we feel a room today has been a scene of intense conflict in the past. Let's go back in time to 1921. It was a time of great social and religious change after the creation of a separate Czechoslovakia. It was this year that a dramatic event occurred, when members of the Church of Czechoslovak Hussite violently occupied the chapel. This act caused great tension at the time and followed by a long and exhausting lawsuit. This event reminds us that sacral buildings can also be victims of human disputes and ideological conflicts. It is a darker chapter in the history of the chapel, but it also shows how strongly religious questions were essential to people at the time.

The interesting thing that may interest you is this combination of holy peace and stormy history. The chapel of St. Cyril and Methodius is not only a building from 1865, but a living organism that survived regime changes, religious disputes and time trials.
